2005 July: Make Poverty History & The Final Push

Posted on October 1, 2007

Edinburgh hosted a series of events surrounding the MPH campaigns of 2005. I attended the Long Walk to Justice in Edinburgh which involved creating a white band around the city. Participants were all asked to wear white t-shirts, so that, once connected across the city, the view from overhead would give the impression of a large ‘band’ of white. This symbolism connected with the ‘rubber bands’ that were used in relation to this event:

While at this event, the Live8 concert was taking place in Hyde Park, London at which Bob Geldof and Bono spoke about their intention to come to Gleneagles Scotland the following week to deliver their manifesto to the G8 leaders. While hanging around the Meadows, we overheard that there were also tickets going for the Edinburgh Live8 concert ‘The Final Push’.
